We may be performing a pap smear during your exam. The results of this pap smear may require additional tests to be performed such as HPV typing. Also there are certain lab tests that Dr. Hood recommends having done once a year. Your insurance may or may not pay for ALL these tests. If your insurance does not pay, you will be billed for the balance from our office and/or the pathologists.
Here is a description of what you can expect at your annual visit:
General Exam & Breast Exam:
Screening exam
Pap Smear:
Screening for abnormal cervical cells
HPV typing (Human Papilloma Virus):
This additional test is added to the pap smear in certain situations. Positive or negative results may change what you need medically
Lipid Panel *:
A lab test that checks your cholesterol levels
CBC *:
A lab test that checks your red and white blood cells & platelets
TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone):
A lab test that checks your thyroid levels to ensure that the thyroid is working properly
HbA1C (Hemoglobin A1C):
This lab test checks your blood glucose level over a period of 3 months
CMP (Comprehensive Metabolic Panel):
Evaluates electrolytes, kidney function, and liver enzymes
Our office can schedule other tests if necessary such as mammograms, colonoscopies, or bone density-DEXA tests.
We also offer the following vaccines:
- Seasonal Flu Shot – 1 shot per year during flu season
- Tdap (Boostrix) – Protects against tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough). 1 shot per year
- Hep A/Hep B (Twinrix) – Protects against Hep A & B – 3 shot series
- Gardasil-9 (HPV vaccine) – 3 shot series

Dr. Hood wants to provide you with the best care possible and typically performs these particular labs on his patients. If you do not desire to have some of these tests performed, please speak with Dr. Hood.
